2-DVD Marilyn Monroe bio set: "Marilyn: The Untold Story" & "Marilyn and Bobby"
This 2-DVD set includes 2 exceptional TV biopics of screen legend Marilyn Monroe. First bup is 1980's "Marilyn: The Untold Story" staring Catherine Hicks in the title role (and the best Monroe replica ever, in my opinion). This film traces Marilyn's life from her childhood beginnings as Norma Jean Baker, being poorly cared for by her bipolar mother, finally abandoned at an orphanage which happens to adjoin a huge movie studio, where Norma Jean can gaze through the window at a life she wishes could be hers. It traces her early first marriage, her work in a munitions factory when he's drafted, where she's discovered by a photographer who transforms her into the ultimate wartime pin-up girl. From there, she's discovered by a talent scout from 20th Century Fox and the rest, as they say, is history. We also follow her torrid and complicated love life and numerous unsuccessful (and tragic, in the cast of the one to super-agent Johnny Hyde) marriages, to baseball hero Joe DiMaggio and playwright Arthur Miller. If we learn anything about Marilyn from this film, based upon the biography by Norman Mailer and various other sources, it's that she never found what she most longed for in life: to be loved, respected and heard. Beneath all the glitz and glamor, we're faced with essentially a sad little lost girl, and hicks succeeds in giving us this side of Marilyn beautifully. Her various husbands are wonderfully played by Richard Basehart (as Johnny Hyde), Jason Miller (as Arthur Miller), andd Joe Campanella (as Joe DiMaggio). Thiss film makes you feel what Marilyn felt throughout her all-too-short career and takes us up to her tragic "suicide" at age 36. There's also the briefest of hints at her much-rumored affair when, hours before her death, as we find her being interviewed by a fan magazine writer, she asks her made is "Mr. Kennedy" called.
Whgich brings us to the 2nd DVD in this little set: 1993's "Marilyn and Bobby: Her Final Affair". This film stars Melody Anderson as Marilyn (nearly as good as Hicks, but no one quite matches her to me) and a bravura performance by James Kelly as then-Attorney General and President John F Kennedy's brother Bobby. The supposition presented quite convincingly in this film is that, between her rumored affair with JFK and her death, Marilyn had a romantic affair with Bobby, whom she meets at a party. This all takes place in the midst of Bobby's crackdown on organized crime and its bosses and Marilyn's downhill slide in her career. Unfortunately for them both, not only is the Edgar Hoover, who has always hated the Kennedys. This presumably, as recounted by this film, results in them being found out and Hoover blackmailing Bobby with incriminated photos and audio recordings accomplished by a "retired" goon. Besides this, Marilyn has become quite unstable and erratic in her behavior, which is sure to force their affair into the daylight...she has, it seems, become an embarrassment not only to Bobby but to the very Presidency. There is a pretty good case presented here that, due to this, Marilyn could have been saved from death but that it was not only prevented but assisted by powers beyond her control in the government. Unfortunately, we'll never really know since all the players in this real-life drama are dead, so unless something is released to the public to prove what is conjectured here, it's left to rumor and the writer's imagination. I can only say that this film makes a compelling and very believable case for its assumptions.

The region-free (playable worldwide) DVDs come to you in slim DVD cases with full artwork shown here.

International (outside U.S.)orders are always welcome, and I used to send these Priority Mail for an additional fee, however as postal rates at my end have skyrocketed of late making that option unaffordable I can only offer First Class "small packet" service, which frankly has its risks, the biggest of which is the lack of tracking available, so PLEASE BE SURE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS IS COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRIOR TO ORDERING in order to minimize the chance of non-delivery as these items are not returned to me if they cannot be delivered for any reason.

I accept personal or cashiers checks and money orders from U.S. buyers and PayPal from everyone in the whole wide world.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to message me with any questions.
