"The Art of Love" (1965) James Garner, Dick Van Dyke, Angie Dickenson,Elke Somme
This silly romp written by, among others, Carl Reiner and directed by Norman Jewison bases itself on the unfounded premise that, because an artist dies his work will automatically increase in value (I had the unhappy opposite happen to me just recently, thinking my 2 Thomas Kincade landscapes would be worth a fortune as a result of his untimely death...doesn't usually work out that way!). Van Dyke plays struggling artist Paul Sloan, who can't for the life of him understand why his wonderful works don't sell...until his clever buddy Casey Barnett (Garner) comes up with the answer. Paul must fake his own suicide, at which point Casey will become his agent and sell all of Paul's "posthumous" works. So Paul cooperates, leaving a tragic note and faking his own drowning. This plot works splendidly (even in Paris, where the story is based and where the artistic community knows something about art and would in reality never respond as they do here!), as Casey pockets fistfuls of cash from eager buyers of "the late" Paul Sloan's works. Unfortunately, this means the REAL, ALIVE Paul must not only hide out somewhere and assume various disguises which enable him to move about in public, be ensconced in a dingy little loft while he continues to create "postumhous" works for Casey to pawn off on stupid Parisians, apparently not even thinking that the supply of such works would at some point naturally run out! Their bigger problem, however, is that the police are suspicious about Paul's death and believe he did not commit suicide but was actually murdered. And who seems to benefit greatest and therefore have the best motive? Why, CASEY, of course! On tp of this, during one of Paul's nightly outings, he comes across the ravishing Nikki (Elke Sommer), who has just thrown herself into the Seine in an attempt to commit suicide. Gallant Paul dives in after her and it is basically love at first site as he Paul rescues and recusitates the unconscious Nikki and takes her off to hos shabby loft to tend to her. Naturally, he also realises that he has found in Nikki the perfect model for a future series of paintings. One problem: He's supposed to be DEAD. An d now, his best friend is implicated in his "murder"! I'll leave the story there because to give away more would be unwise if you haven't seen this frothy little gem and plan to purchase your very own copy!

The region-free (playable worldwide)DVD comes to you in a slim DVD case with full artwork shown.

PLEASE NOTE: Because I burn these DVDs on an as-ordered basis, you may experience a shipping delay of a day or possibly two, but I try to avoid this if time permits!

International (outside U.S.)orders are always welcome, and I used to send these Priority Mail for an additional fee, however as postal rates at my end have skyrocketed of late making that option unaffordable I can only offer First Class "small packet" service, which frankly has its risks, the biggest of which is the lack of tracking available, so PLEASE BE SURE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS IS COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRIOR TO ORDERING in order to minimize the chance of non-delivery as these items are not returned to me if they cannot be delivered for any reason.

I accept personal or cashiers checks and money orders from U.S. buyers and PayPal from everyone in the whole wide world.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to message me with any questions.
