"The Trials of Oscar Wilde" (1960) Peter Finch, James Mason WIDESCREEN!

Sell.com    Items for Sale    Movies, Music & TV    DVD's    26LQW8

I have this DVD listed separately as a 2-disc set with the DVD "Oscar Wilde", which was also released in 1960 and in fact the same WEEK as this film. They are often confused with one another because of this. Here are some major differences to help you determine which one you actually want to add to your library: THIS one is in COLOUR, WIDESCREEN and stars PETER FINCH as the irrepressible and inimitable poet, playwright and wit of the latter half of the 19th century, for which he won a Golden Globe. The OTHER film, simply titled "OSCAR WILDE", is in BLACK AND WHITE FULL-SCREEN and stars the equally impressive but considerably more corpulent ROBERT MORLEY as the title character. I've decided to list them as separate entities while retaining the 2-disc set listing for those who have neither DVD because many of you who've enquired only want one or the other film, so this is simply to make it easier to choose, or determine which of the 2 films you already own. Both films deal with essentially the same material, that being the trials for sodomy through which Mr. Wilde endured no end of suffering resulting from very public allegations levied against him my the Marquis of Queensbury, who took great exception to Wilde's "friendship" with his son. The subject matter, as touchy as it was in 1960 (and in fact for MOST of the '60s), is handled with great delicacy, sensitivity and maturity in both films. Anyone interested in these films will already know that Wilde, as a result of the trials, endured many years in prison and was ultimately exiled to France, where he essentially wasted away until his untimely death. My feeling is that Mr. Morley, even though in a considerably lesser film and with clearly a lesser budget, deserves at least the accolades bestowed upon Mr. Finch. Their portrayals of Wilde are extremely different, but both are equally extremely noteworthy, which was why I was offering the DVDs as a set, so they could be compared side-by-side by the viewer (though not both AT ONCE, of course! That would be a bit severe!).

So you'll find here a SEPARATE listing for Morley's "Oscar Wilde", as well as a listing for the 2-disc set still intact for those who want both.

The region-free (playable worldwide) DVD comes to you in a slim DVD case with full artwork shown here.

International (outside U.S.)orders are always welcome, and I used to send these Priority Mail for an additional fee, however as postal rates at my end have skyrocketed of late making that option unaffordable I can only offer First Class "small packet" service, which frankly has its risks, the biggest of which is the lack of tracking available, so PLEASE BE SURE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS IS COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRIOR TO ORDERING in order to minimize the chance of non-delivery as these items are not returned to me if they cannot be delivered for any reason.

I accept personal or cashiers checks and money orders from U.S. buyers and PayPal from everyone in the whole wide world.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to message me with any questions.
