"Don't Bet On Love," is the breezy chronicle of one Bill McCaffrey, a young plumber, who is more interested in the winner of the fifth at Belmont than in a leak in Mrs. Smith's bathtub.
Neither the admonitions of his father nor the pleas of his manicurist sweetheart can turn his mind from contemplation of an attractive three-horse parlay.
Gifted with a Midas touch, his modest ventures reap golden harvests but cost him his bride.
The manicurist calls off the wedding at the last moment when she discovers he has decided on a wedding trip to Saratoga.
Instead of taking to drink, the "plunging plumber" takes the bookies and wins fame as the man who picked twenty-six winners in succession.
In view of all this the burning question is, what can be done to convince Mr. McCaffery of the error of his ways?
Lew Ayres, as the plumber, and Ginger Rogers, as the manicurist, make a wonderful team. The cast is terriffic, the racing scenes well handled and the dialogue, natural and entertaining.
