Mr. Peabody and The Mermaid (1948) William Powell, Ann Blyth. Enchanting fantasy
I am at a loss to know why this thoroughly delightful, clever and witty Nunnally Johnson fantasy has never been released on DVD! Starring the always-classy William Powell as the title character who's experiencing a midlife crisis turning over 50. To salve his deflated ego, his wife (Irene Hervey) whisks him off to the Caribbean and, while on a fishing excursion, snags an exquisite mermaid, as played by the gorgeous Ann Blyth (who, in quite a unique turn for her, not only doesn't sing in this, doesn't even speak!). Mr. Peabody manages to smuggle her home, at first putting her in the bathtub, but when his wife )Irene Hervey) becomes suspicious when her bath soaps and toiletries mysteriously go missing, he transfers her to the rather lavish swimming pool. Lots and lots of misunderstandings and suspicions follow! One of the funniest scenes is when Peabody visits a women's boutique wanting to purchase only the top half of a bathing suit, leaving the saleslady completely befuddled! The script is loaded with comical double-entendres and is very subtle in its comedic treatment of Peabody's midlife crisis...is his mermaid real or a figment concocted by his own mind? Clinton Sundberg is a perfect foible for Peabody during his Caribbean trip, acting as a very funny sounding-board for Peabody's midlife anxieties. If you've never seen this treat, now is your opportunity.

The region-free (playable worldwide) DVD comes to you in a slim DVD case with full artwork shown.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am offering this in either the original black and white or a nicely-done colorized version...you choose which format you want and tell me when you order, and the price is the same either way. If you do not specify "colorized" in your order, it will default to black-and-white, my personal preference being a purist about these things!

International (outside U.S.)orders are always welcome, and I used to send these Priority Mail for an additional fee, however as postal rates at my end have skyrocketed of late making that option unaffordable I can only offer First Class "small packet" service, which frankly has its risks, the biggest of which is the lack of tracking available, so PLEASE BE SURE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS IS COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRIOR TO ORDERING in order to minimize the chance of non-delivery as these items are not returned to me if they cannot be delivered for any reason.

I accept personal or cashiers checks and money orders from U.S. buyers and PayPal from everyone in the whole wide world.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to message me with any questions.
