This a public interest message to potential Minimed or Medtronic used equipment buyer and seller.
If you are buying a second hand pump:
-Selling this class of medical equipment is illegal both in the USA and Canada
-You need a prescription to purchase a pump
-Medtronic will not help you if you have a problem or a question regarding your pump because it's registered in someone else's name
-You absolutely need a "letter of donation" from the seller to get it registered
-Furthermore, Medtronic will ask you a $500US fee for "recertification"
*Basically they send you a new pump in replacement of the old one.
-Make sure that the software revision is current.
*On August/09, the current revision is 2.3A 1.1
For those buying catheters:
-Ask the seller for the lot number
-Lot numbers starting by "8" are being recalled
-This means that you will have to call Medtronic and arrange for a replacement
-If you purchase second hand, Medtronic is a bit picky on the provenance of such items. I had to convince them that no mather what, they are bound by law to replace recalled items.
For physicians:
If you are installing a pump to a patient that bought a used pump, please be aware that Medtronic might not pay your fees since they where most probably paid for the original owner.
I hope this will help buyers and sellers! |
