GOLDIE & LIZA TOGETHER
This one hour, One-of-a-kind Special aired Feb. 19, 1980 on CBS, Featuring songs , Dance Numbers, And Sketches from two of the biggest names in Hollywood then & now. Everyone knew Liza could sing & Dance of course, but were surprised with Goldie, known mostly for her movie roles & her most remembered time on “Laugh-in” where Her most famous statement; “Don’t Go Back, We’ll be right Away”, became law ! Goldie did a little singing and dancing but I had not really seen her engage so heavily in these areas before this show. Possibly the one song that stood out, was a duet “I’m The Other Woman”, which was done beautifully.
Of course, You knew with Goldie around things couldn’t stay serious for long, then came a big dance number featuring Goldie singing YMCA while being tossed around by a group of Body Builders. Liza was then featured in a segment on the Broadway musical, "Chicago". Both were done extremely well.
One of the featured skits was a dramatic segment about two close friends watching their friendship disintegrate over a man. Too bad it did not win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety or Music Program, but that year, there were 5 worthy nominees and since only one could win, the cards fell in another direction.
These two beautiful woman played well with and off of each other. Liza, as usual, proved herself to be a consummate entertainer, and lets just say Goldie was Goldie, and she proved she could hold her own with the best. At this point, they were both at the peak of their talents with this special. The music and the costumes as well as the production values make this an excellent quality program.
One could sum the show up as a sort of one-of variety special.
