MY BROTHER'S KEEPER - 1948 UK
Neat little crime thriller. Two men being transported to court jump from a Police car and escape. The first escapee, Jack Warner, is a hard case with 14 years prison time already. The second played by a young George Cole is a simple lad with no record. The only reason he jumped was he was handcuffed to Warner. Warner has no intention of going back to jail and drags Cole along whether Cole wants to go or not. While cutting off the cuffs in an old farm house the two are interrupted by a local bird hunter. Warner calmly caves the man's head in with a steel pipe and returns to cutting the handcuffs. Once free he leaves Cole and heads off to try to escape to France. Of course the boys in blue are not amused with the course of events and close in. Cole is captured while Warner is killed. Neat crime film with some great acting from Warner as the heavy. Directed by Alfred Roome whose claim to fame is that he was the film editor on 14 of the CARRY ON films. The cast also inludes Jane Hylton, Bill Owen and David Tomlinson.
