Our soap nuts liquid detergent extract is an amazing natural detergent and removes most typical stains with incredible benefits over chemical detergents. No detergent can ensure removal of ALL stains. You may use the extract for spot pre-treatments. You may still have occasional needs for a commercial stain remover or solvent for VERY tough or ground-in stains. However, soap nuts laundry soaps in all forms will work to break down these harsh chemical stain removers - and will help you rid your laundry of these very potent, and potentially hazardous chemicals.

Do not be fooled - VERY Important Consumer Notices:
- Because law in the US does not require “Full Disclosure”, do not assume that if a product states full disclosure that it actually is genuinely complete and full disclosure. Neither the FDA nor EPA has provided legislation to truly help and protect consumers from erroneous or misleading claims. Hence, it is very important to study the ingredients for ourselves, and draw our own conclusions.

- All water based botanical liquids (unless chemically extracted) absolutely require sufficient preservatives for your protection. Botanical liquids are subject to becoming rancid due to fungal and microbial development. Although saponin is naturally anti-fungal and anti-microbial, once water extracted it will become subject to such contamination. There are very safe, benign preservatives that have very low hazard ratings - such as 2 on the "Safety in Cosmetics" database sale of 0-9 (0 being best and 9 being worst). For your protection we use such safe and very well studied ingredients.

- Citric Acid (often claimed as solely as a water softener) is totally insufficient as an adequate preservative to ensure a two-year shelf life (the standard required shelf life for a NaturOli liquid soap and detergent). Common sense tells us that lemon juice and other citrus juices do help preserve food. Put a little lemon juice on an avocado paste and it will help stop it from turning brown. But will a lemon (loaded with citric acid) actually rot in time. Of course it will. Finding the truth has not been made easy for consumers. Let your own good judgment be your guide.

- Being totally free of fragrance, your laundry will smell amazingly clean and fresh - like "line-dried" on a clear spring day! No hint of an added scent at all. If you desire a scent, we suggest putting a few drops (dependent upon potency) of your favorite essential oil on a clean rag and just toss it in your dryer. This will scent the fabrics without affecting the fabric fibers. Avoid adding any essential oils during the wash or rinse cycles for the oils can produce a "wicking" effect. This results in coating fabric fibers, building up residue and causing laundry to be less absorbent - exactly some of the main problems that soap nuts eliminate!

SO, WHAT EXACTLY ARE SOAP NUTS?
Soap Nuts are actually the dried pulp and skin from the Soapberry (or Soap Berry Nut). The botanical name is derived from the Latin sapo (soap) and (Indian) indicus, referring to the lather-producing fruit. Soap Nuts are actually the fruit harvested from a soap nut tree (much like olives). There are two primary soap nut tree species (Mukorossi and Trifoliatus). Both are of the family Sapindaceae. The genus Sapindus. Mukorossi is a large tree primarily grown in and around the Himalayan Mountains of Northern India and Nepal. Soap nuts release saponin. Saponin is the all-important natural active ingredient within soap nuts that actually produces the "soaping" effect.

The soap nut tree flowers are small, white and grouped in panicles. Its fruits are round, yellow berries, that become sticky and golden to reddish in color as they ripen. Sapindus Trifoliatus is a smaller tree typically found in Southern India and Pakistan. It produces a smaller fruit. The Mukorossi soap nuts are larger, brighter in color and gloss, and more effective in producing the 'soaping' effect. Mukorossi soap nuts are typically exported from New Delhi (nearer their growth areas in the Himalayans). The Trifoliatus variety is often exported from Indonesia. These soap nuts are less desirable for they lack consistency and saponin content. In either case however, local farmers and families harvest the soap nuts after the fruit falls from the tree. The seeds are removed and the fruits are dried in the sun and become wrinkled in texture (much like raisins). Hence, soap nuts are actually dried fruits - not nuts at all. Regardless of the name (Soap Nut, soapnuts, wash nuts, Soap Berry, Soapberry nut, etc.), it is the saponin from the dried pulp and skin that produces the soaping effect. This soap nut "shell" (simply the fruit without the seed) is what is actually used as the natural detergent - and the source for the saponin liquid extract. Those with nut allergies do not need to be concerned about a “nut” allergy reaction. A soap nut is not a “nut” at all.
