Night Stand with Dick Dietrick was a spoof on daytime talk shows (Jerry Springer, Ricki Lake, Jenny Jones, etc.). It premiered on September 16, 1995 in syndication. The show ran in over 87% of the U.S. markets in syndication. In addition to syndication, Night Stand was broadcast on The Entertainment Channel (E!) Monday-Thursday at 10:30 p.m. (between Talk Soup and Howard Stern). The partnership with E! provided it with the ability to remain on air for a second season.

Unlike other shows, each hour-long syndicated episode was divided into two half-hour programs. For the E! reruns, that yielded 96 episodes. With the high episode count produced, E! decided to keep the show, but only in reruns, for a couple of years after that.

The team that produced the show later went on to work with Howard Stern on Son of the Beach, with some of the Night Stand "guests" and semi-regulars making appearances as well.

A well-received parody of talk shows, it had plenty of funny scenes but one scene went unexpectedly too far when Dietrick (played by Timothy Stack) tore the clothes off a male model to see if he could impress a seemingly uninterested young woman guest looking for dates. After ripping off his shirt, the model's trousers were next but Stack accidentally pulled the underwear down as well and there was a brief (and unscripted) glimpse of male genitalia much to the audience and performers shock. This scene has sometimes turned up on out-take programmes like It'll be Alright on the Night. The show's slogan was The Comedy That Makes Up Talk, which was later changed to The Comedy That Makes Fun Of Talk when viewers did not fully grasp the parody. WIKIPEDIA
