SNAFU

PRIVATE SNAFU RARE WWII CARTOON COLLECTION!

cartoons showing how NOT to be a good soldier and the potential consequences of doing or saying the wrong things. Targeted solely at servicemen, the language was far more graphic and animation more adult in nature on a few occasions.

1. S.N.A.F.U PREVIEW

2. GRIPES - Private Snafu learns the hard way about the need for military dicipline and procedures to maintain an effective army.

3. SPIES - The doltish but self-confident and self-congratulatory Private Snafu is in possession of a military secret during World War II. Over the course of the day, spouting rhymed couplets, he divulges the secret a little at a time to listening Axis spies. He tells his mom some of the secret when he calls her from a phone booth; the rest he spills to a dolly dolly spy who plies him with liquor. Snafu's loose lips put himself at risk.

4. THE GOLDBRICK - The lazy, goldbricking Snafu is asleep, when he is suddenly awakened by the morning bugle call. He doesn't want to get up, so the "Goldbrick fairy" appears. The fairy sings to him several things to do to avoid completing any of his duties. After many successful sleazy attempts to avoid work, the fairy pulls off his disguise and reveals he is actually an enemy Japanese, who fooled him and sabotaged his army's entire defense.

5. THE INFANTRY BLUES - Private Snafu complains about being stuck as an infantryman until his magic sidekick shows him that other military branches have their own problems.

6. FIGHTING TOOLS - Pvt. Snafu suffers the consequences of not keeping his equipment and weapons properly maintained. This one is has to do with War Weapons for the US. Snafu is all singing and saying with all these good weapons to use he'll be a hero by defeating any German soldier who comes near him. And with out notice one German soldier comes near him but Snafu uses one of his weapons to surprise him. This one has singing in it through out the whole short. Has plenty of gags.

7. THE HOME FRONT - A homesick Pvt. Snafu learns that his family are almost as commited to the war efforts as himself. Snafu is disliking the weather at the military campgrounds. He starts to picture how much fun his family and girlfriend are having back home. And not knowing how bad the war is. Until Technical Fairy First Class appears and show Snafu what his Dad, Mom, Grandpa, and girlfriend are doing back home.
This Snafu short has references to the War jobs that are offered during WW2. Including Tank plants, Victory Gardens, Ship Building and W.A.C. It points out that the Soldiers aren't alone in the war as there's a lot of support back home for them to win the war. It's another good Snafu short. Has some jokes here and there. And a small scene that shows Snafu's vision of his Girlfriend going out with a taller more handsome guy who stares at her breasts when he says "What large eyes you have" Which is the only mature theme you'd see in this short.

8. RUMORS - Snafu inadvertantly starts a panic on his base when he begins a mistaken rumour that the base is about to be bombed. As the title would indicate, this cartoon is an illustration of the damaging power of rumors. The setting is an Army camp. Private Snafu sits next to another soldier in the latrine (something you won't see in any other Hollywood films of the era) and their casual conversation starts the ball rolling. We observe as an offhand remark about a bombing is misinterpreted, then exaggerated, then turned into an increasingly frightening rumor that sweeps the camp. The imagery is indeed vivid: the brain of one anxious soldier is depicted as a percolating pot, while the fevered speech of another is rendered as steamy hot air, i.e "balloon juice." A soldier "shoots his mouth off," cannon-style, and before you know it actual baloney is flying in every direction. Winged baloney, at that. Panicked soldiers tell each other that the Brooklyn Bridge has been pulverized, Coney Island wiped out, enemy troops have landed on the White House lawn, and the Japanese are in California. The visuals become ever more surreal and nightmarish until at last the camp is quarantined for "Rumor-itis" and Private Snafu has been locked up in a padded cell.

9. BOOBY TRAPS - Pvt. Snafu is on North African desert patrol. He's too smart to get caught by an enemy booby trap. He avoids the booby-trapped shower, but that camel with a contact mine for an udder... Then he finds an Arab harem full of barely clad beauties. There's the hookah full of TNT instead of tobacco, and one of the girls has bombs where her shapely curves should be. And there's a piano. The music for "All Those Endearing Young Charms" rests on top. One of the keys is booby-trapped with explosives, but Pvt. Snafu can't seem to get that last note...
Very politically incorrect by today's standards, this animated romp concerning the perils with which our boys contend OVER THERE (in the Arabian deserts of good ol' WWII) is a total riot. The harem of 1940's beauties (possibly the sexiest cartoon characters ever put to the screen), an over-sized mouse-trap, a rigged up-right piano, a potentially explosive hooka, a triangle-playing mechanical Hitler and, best of all, a talking camel with a bomb attached to it, are some of the highlights of this brilliant short work.it's Middle Eastern setting is all too eerie.

10. SNAFUPERMAN - Pvt. Snafu becomes a superhero, only for him to become the world's dumbest one because he won't study his field manuals. This one is when Snafu is tired of studying field manuals and charts to fight enemies. He wished he could be a Superhero. So with luck Technical Fairy First class comes in and offers him a wish. Snafu became a superman only he was still the same height and has no muscles. He's now able to fight off the enemy with no problem. But as always Snafu ends up screwing up things. He makes a lousy hero too. this short has a good lesson in Studying field manuals and charts are better than going out and kill the enemy with no sense of plan.

11. PRIVATE SNAFU vs. MALARIA MIKE - Snafu learns hard way the consequences of not protecting himself from malaria infection. Introduces Malaria Mike a mosquito who gives out Malaria once he stings someone. Throughout the short he tries to sting snafu with his needle.
Has a few gags to it as well. a good lesson in knowing why it's important to protect yourself from Mosquitoes. Another good Snafu cartoon. Those who are offended by the sight of a guy's butt might not like this one.

12. A LECTURE ON CAMOFLAGE - Using Snafu as an example, Techanical Fairy First Class teaches the methods of effective camouflage. This is mainly having to do with how to hide yourself from the enemy with the technique of camouflage. Technical Fairy does all the talking while Snafu demonstrates. Course he's no good at doing it for one thing. Throughout the lesson Snafu keeps running and hiding from the enemy. With Technical Fairy Fist Class yelling at him and telling him what to do. A Good lesson on how to blend in with the scenery when your in war.

13. GAS - Snafu learns the need of keeping his gas mask at hand when he is attacked by anthropomorphic gas cloud.

14. GOING HOME - Pvt. Snafu's unit suffers the consequences of blabbing military secrets while on leave at home. Snafu tells his family, girlfriend, and friends what he did. Course the stuff he reveals is confidential and not suppose to revealed to the public. But like always Snafu announces all the Army's secrets and plans including the bomb.
It's another memorable Snafu cartoon. This Private Snafu cartoon wasn't shown to the U.S. army because it'll spread fear about the development of the bomb.

15. THE CHOW HOUND - Snafu learns of the folly of hoarding and wasting military food supplies. A bull was about to live a settle life with a cow, till war occurred and Snafu was drafted to fight in the war. The bull realizes that the Snafu needs food in order to prevent hunger while fighting in the war. So the Bull turns himself in to the slaughterhouse and his meat was canned and shipped to Snafu's Army Corp. But will Snafu eat the meat of the Bull he gave his own life away for a soldier? I won't give away on what the ending is like, but just know that this short has a simple lesson in not to waist food. Which gives Soldiers the idea to eat small and not too much.

16. CENSORED - Private Snafu wants to tell his sweetheart, Sally Lou, that he thinks his unit will be sent to the South Pacific. But every effort he makes to get his letter through uncensored is thwarted by a resourceful (and unseen) censor with an array of contraptions and booby traps. Not even Snafu's carrier pigeon can avoid the censor -- not when he has a hawk for an assistant. Technical Fairy, First Class, comes to the rescue and agrees to deliver the letter -- but he has good reason to say that he'll hate himself in the morning.

17. OUTPOST - Snafu has an object lesson on the value of complete and accurate regular reports when he discovers and reports evidence of the enemy's presence at his assigned area.

18. PAYDAY - Technical Fairy First Class shows Snafu the consequences of frittering away his pay.

19. TARGET SNAFU - A armada of malaria-laden mosquitoes seeks human targets and finds Private Snafu who fails to protect himself adequately against their onslaught. This shows the Mosquitoes as soldiers training to give human soldiers malaria. And it so happens that Sanfu is their main target.

20. A FEW FACTS INFLATION - Discouraging over spending abroad.

21. THREE BROTHERS - Dissatisfied with being assigned to shoe consignment detail, Snafu learns about the true value of his responsibilities Snafu couldn't take all the K.P. he's been doing. He wished he had a better possession in the army like his brothers do.
Technical Fairy First Class appears out of nowhere like always. And shows Snafu how his Borthers are doing. His 2 Brothers are Tarfu(Things Really Fouled Up) and Fubar(Fouled up Beyond All Repair). As you may guess they are as dimwitted as Snafu himself. They too hate they're own possessions in the army and wish they had better possessions from where they are. To make a long summary short it's another good Snafu short. Tarfu and Fubar look like Snafu only with different hair cuts.

22. IN THE ALEUTIANS - A humourous look at the Aleutian Islands and their strategic value. This is one of the best of the wartime 'Private Snafu' films made by Termite Terrace, usually written by Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss). Because they were intended only for soldiers, they were usually far more open and frank than movies intended for civilian showings and concerned themselves with humorously designed warnings about how to behave In this case, the movie is about being stationed in the Aleutians and their strategic importance in the war.

23. A FEW QUICK FACTS ON FEAR - Talks about fear through the ages. Fear, the causes and how we react to it.

24. IT'S MURDER SHE SAYS - A haggard mosquito complains how tough life is with the military taking the proper precautions against malaria infection

25. HOT SPOT - As the Devil watches Pvt. Snafu and his unit stationed in Iran, he talks about the hazards of working in the heat. This Snafu short is educational and funny to watch. The Devil who is working in his office in Heck received a call about a place hotter than where he's at. He goes to the place hotter than Heck which is Iran. Throughout the short the Devil watches the U.S. Army build camps and transport shipments to Russia. He reads facts and info of the country. We even get to see Snafu do his usual screw ups.

26. OPERATION SNAFU - Snafu steals secret war plans from the Japanese

27. NO BUDDY ATOLL - Pvt. Snafu & a shipwrecked Japanes stranded on a small island

28. PRIVATE SNAFU PRESENTS SEAMAN TARFU IN THE NAVY - The title character's name "Seaman Tarfu" comes from the unofficial military acronym "TARFU": Things Are Really [Fouled] Up. This cartoon focuses on Snafu's brother, Tarfu. It shows the basics of the Navy. The conditions and uniforms of it too. Contains a few gags here and there. The Narrator does more talking than Tarfu does in this short. It's just like the other Snafu toons even though Snafu isn't in it. This is in fact the final Snafu cartoon that's ever been made. No other one has been made for 60 years. They were originaly going to release more but they didn't due to the end of WW2.
