This is a classic HBO documentary on strippers. Called "The Naked Stages" (1998) it is divided into 3 sections- "Rookies," "Headliners" and "Veterans." This one of the best HBO docs in the bunch, and really gives you a look at these girls lives and what the think and feel about their jobs. This is a VERY rare doc, and took me YEARS to find a copy. This DVD does feature full and complete nudity, so viewer discretion is advised.
Stage One: Rookies: Features 2 girls, friends since childhood that are embarking on a career at "Pure Platinum" all- nude strip club in Orlando, Florida. Both nervous at the audition, the owner guides them through it, then predicts one will make it, and another will not.
Stage Two: Headliners: headliners follows "Maya Divine" porn star and strip club headliner (she was 28 when this was filmed) as she travels from club to club and show to show. In one of the most beautifully filmed show, you get to see Maya in all her glory. her fun personality translates nicely into film and her show is nothing less than spectacular. The camera even follows Maya (Wendy) as she has her breast done.
Stage Three: Veterans: Follows a Vegas performer, Avalon, who has been performing for 17 years. She is only allowed to work one shift a week at her job. The camera follows her from audition to audition, as she is rejected. She is 50 years old, overweight and slightly bitter, she complains about being pushed to the side for younger girls.
