This sale is for the SUPER-ULTRA-RARE DVD of "Nightline" with Ted Koppel - both the dates September 16, 1993 and September 17, 1993 are on this disc. Both these shows are about Erin Blackwell AKA "Tiny", a young prostitute that appeared in the 1983-1984 documentary Streetwise. The quality of this DVD is superb for it's age, a 9 out of 10. It is one DVD, with both shows on it (Parts 1 & 2), each show runs 1/2 an hour long, and is called "Streetwise in Seattle." The picture above is only an example of some of the pictures Mary Ellen took of Tiny in 1993. AGAIN- This is not for the movie Streetwise, it's for 2 Nightline episodes from 1993 that feature Tiny, who was in Streetwise.
Nightline caught up with Tiny 10 years after "Streetwise" was filmed. Looking more like 34 then 24 years old, Tiny is a bloated and scarred version of her former self. With 3 kids to support, Tiny finds herself falling into alcohol and drugs much like her own mother did. This is a one hour special on Tiny's life, as she talks candidly about filming Streetwise, her life since the movie, her children, and how she grew up. You will get to see her life now, her children, and what became of the little girl you never forgot. Mary Ellen Mark (Photographer and director of "Streetwise") also comments on Tiny's life, her children, and how she grew up. She also shares her startling black & white photos of Tiny she has taken over 10 years time.
Streetwise (1984) was a documentary about homeless street children in Seattle that eeked out a living prostituting, spare changing, dumpster diving, and scamming pizza joints. Once thought to be a problem of cities like New York and Chicago, Mary Ellen Mark and her husband Martin Bell went on to make one of the most daring documentaries about street children in Seattle, thought to be a great city to live in.
About Streetwise: Tiny was 14 and looked 11. She made her living sleeping with men that were 30-70 and had been sexually active since she was 12. She has had a laundry list of sexually transmitted diseases, and claims she "wants a baby, but not by no trick." Among Tiny's friends are Rat, a street smart kid that is 13. He is an expert at spare changing, and lives in an abandoned hotel. Dwayne, who doesn't have a mother, lives in the streets until his father gets out of prison. (Dwayne and his Dad's story was later made into the movie "American Heart.") Kim, who works the streets and can't decide on what pimp to go to and Roberta, a pretty blonde. Tiny warns Roberta to be careful, that "some girls have been killed out here" which turns out to be tragically true for Roberta, as she later on was a victim of Gary Ridgeway, the Green River Killer. Other kids include; Lulu, a tough street girl who protects the less tough kids, Patty and Munchkin, a couple that survives day to day, and like most teenagers, can't bear to be apart.
I will also include FREE a copy of a 1985 clip from Nightline showing the murder of "Lulu", a tough lesbian street kid that appeared in "Streetwise".
