Up for sale is the Grandaddy of them all... The 52 disc James Bond Ultimate Collector's Megaset

When it comes to film franchises, very few measure up to Ian Fleming's legendary secret agent, James Bond. For decades this series has never failed to deliver the goods. With girls, guns, gadgets, and everything in between, the series rarely fails to please. The franchise has been through many highs and lows in its several-decades long history. Numerous collections of the Bond films have been released over the years. In 2008 we now have Ultimate James Bond Collector's Megaset.

OVERVIEW:
The heart of this 52 disc collection features 42 discs - all 21 of the "official" EON Bond productions films plus a BONUS DISC for EACH film. Included are Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, Live And Let Die, The Man With The Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, A View To A Kill, The Living Daylights, Licence To Kill, Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, and Casino Royale.

Not only does this set include the official EON productions films. It ALSO includes the non-EON productions such as the David Niven/Peter Sellers version of Casino Royale and the Sean Connery vehicle and Thunderball remake Never Say Never Again. BOTH included.

Also included is the very first James Bond appearance. A televised 1954 CBS version of Casino Royale featuring Barry Nelson as Bond, the great Peter Lorre as his nemesis, Le Chiffre and the lovely Linda Christian as the object of Bond's affections. Quality of this show is surprisingly good considering it is 54 years old! Sourced from film...9 of 10 in my opinion.

The expanded 2 hour "E" Entertainment Channel "Bond Girls" documentary is also included in this set. An edited one hour version of this film occasionally appears on the AMC channel. Superb quality. All commercials edited out by yours truly.

Next is a set of three discs containing the first three 007 films...Dr. NO, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger . They are presented on 3 widescreen discs enhanced for 16x9 TVs. They are primarily sourced from the "Special Edition" versions of the Bond DVDs from a few years back. Top quality. These discs might be said to be "Audbly Enhanced." Along with the normal Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtracks and the normal Dolby Digital 2.0 MGM commentary tracks comes a special bonus. That bonus being that this set of three discs includes the LONG UNAVAILABLE Criterion Collection CAV Laser Disc audio commentary tracks in Dolby Digital 2.0. These bonus audio tracks have been professionally added as a third .... and in the case of Goldfinger -- fourth audio track. The original MGM Goldfinger disc originally had not one but TWO commentary tracks! These Criterion Collection commentary tracks are extremely opinionated and somewhat controversial. Upon their initial release they were immediately pulled out of circulation by producers Broccoli and Saltzman due to some very candid statements made by the five filmmakers interviewed.... director Terrence Young .... screenwriter Richard Maibaum ..... editor Peter Hunt .... production designer Ken Adam .... and director Guy Hamilton. The commentaries are hosted by Bruce Eder and Steve Rubin. Each DVD is just the movie alone with the audio commentaries ...no extras included. However, the extras ARE included on the twenty-one bonus discs for the EON produced movies mentioned above.
To access the various audio tracks on these three discs.... including the BANNED Criterion Collection commentary tracks one must use the "audio" button on your DVD player's remote control. The chapter markers of of the OOP Special Edition DVDs have also been preserved for each DVD.

During the 1988-1994 production gap of James Bond films, between Timothy Dalton's License to Kill and Pierce Brosnan's GoldenEye, there was still some "new" James Bond material to be screened in 2 WELL ABOVE AVERAGE made-for-TV movies:

GOLDENEYE: THE SECRET LIFE OF IAN FLEMING - THE REAL JAMES BOND (1989

Taking its title from Ian Fleming's home in Jamaica [also used for the 1995 Brosnan film], the film stars Charles Dance (who also appeared in For Your Eyes Only) as Fleming, and begins with him giving an interview recounting some of his real-life exploits. The film manages to include the origins of the name James Bond, "007" and "shaken, not stirred" among other clichés. Dance, who can be both oddly reptilian looking and handsome at times, is very effective as Fleming. One can see why there was some talk after Roger Moore stepped down of his taking over the role of James Bond. The script is said to be based on John Pearson's book The Life of Ian Fleming.

Charles Dance stars as Commander Ian Fleming, the enigmatic playboy and adventurer who created 007 James Bond, the world's deadliest secret agent. But Fleming's super spy was not just the invention of a fertile imagination. His inspiration was his own life. A love of adventure led him into wartime espionage. His love of women led him into trouble. Seductive and charming, he broke many hearts but had one love. Phyllis Logan stars as Ann Rothermere, the beautiful wife of an English press baron who captured his heart. Filmed on location at Fleming's Jamaican retreat and in London, Goldeneye is the story of a remarkable man: his life, his loves and his legacy.

SPYMAKER: THE SECRET LIFE OF IAN FLEMING (1990)

This superbly done and much underrated movie initially relies on the stunt casting of the first cinematic James Bond's son, Jason Connery, as young Ian Fleming. But the younger Connery is quite good, and looks great in a tux. This film also stars former A View to a Kill Bond girl Fiona Fullerton and Kristin Scott Thomas (whose sister Serena was Bond's doctor in the beginning of The World is Not Enough). Here is the blurb from the VHS release:

Torrid love affairs. Elegant and erotic women. Spine-tingling espionage. Exotic locales. Diabolical villains. The man who created James Bond, Ian Fleming, actually lived the most exciting spy thriller of all. His adventures span the world -- from Russia (with love and betrayal) to a top-secret Nazi fortress, where he defeats the enemy on His Majesty's Secret Service. Born into an aristocratic English family, his legendary sexual exploits and talent for danger and intrigue destine him for the life of a hero and a spy. He single-handedly outwits Soviet intelligence, foils an SS monster at a glamorous casino, steals the secrets of the German high command and storms an enemy stronghold against impossible odds. Evil adversaries are no match for his strength and cunning. The fastest cars. The most desirable women. The most hazardous missions. A sizzling, action-packed adventure of the life of the man who created James Bond -- Fleming..... Ian Fleming.

Neither film has had an official DVD release. The VHS tapes released in 1989 and 1990 are LONG out of print and command HUGE prices whenever listed for sale online. Serious Bond collectors and enthusiasts have been known to pay upwards of $50 for mint condition copies of the originally released VHS tapes. Now for the first time anywhere sourced from the best quality copies available these two superb films can now be enjoyed on DVD along with the rest of the Bond material in this most inclusive collector's Mega set.

Last but not least is the superb 60 minute documentary from 1999 "The James Bond Story."

52 discs. Region Free. Playable on any DVD player or PC.

Here are a few relevant observations about this set:

It is A QUICK AND EASY WAY TO COMPLETE YOUR BOND COLLECTION. You could hunt down each individual film, and spend a lot more money and do a lot more searching. Or you could just get this big set. Much quicker and easier.
This set has A BONUS DISC OF MATERIAL FOR NEARLY EVERY MOVIE! If you're a Bond fanatic, you're going to get a kick out of all the extra material in these sets. Deleted scenes, trailers, interviews with cast and crew... These bonus discs are pure gold for you if you're a Bond die hard like me. These Bonus discs are actually somewhat difficult to obtain. A few... BUT NOT ALL are available for rental on Netflix.
Normally the remastering of movies in general is not such a big deal. It is often a rather shoddy job that does little to improve the picture quality. NOT THIS TIME! The restorers has given us the 21 EON films FRAME BY FRAME RESTORATIONS. If you thought earlier issues of Bond films on DVD had crappy picture quality, this set redeems itself. This is, hands down, THE GREATEST FILM REMASTERING JOB I HAVE EVER SEEN. Even Dr. No, the first Bond film, has stunningly beautiful picture quality! This is reason alone to buy the sets, even if you own one of the pre-2006 boxes (these are the same remasters from the 2006 collections.)
This new set is FAR SUPERIOR TO THE OLD DVD BOXES OF THE SERIES. Everything the old did, these sets do better. Picture, extras, you name it, this set does it better. And for the first time, you can get everything in one convenient place!

When it comes to the Bond films on DVD, "Nobody Does It Better" than this box set. Beautiful picture and sound, extras galore, and all twenty-one films readily available again... Not to mention the several additional discs of movies and rarities. There is simply no reason not to buy this if you're a Bond fan. Even if you already have a few films on DVD or some of the older sets, these are still worth getting for the picture quality and bonus features alone.

We do NOT do artwork on dvds and they are shipped in clear faced white sleeves to assure they arrive safe and with delivery confirmation on all domestic orders.
