Be sure to scroll clear to the bottom to see more photos.

First, a little history. When the Railway Express Agency shut down in 1969, this was left in the depot at Hood River. My Dad bought it, along with several other items. He was the telegrapher/clerk for the Union Pacific at that depot. He told me it was a caboose stove, and had never been used. Whether it has been used or not, I will let you decide. The grates on the inside are like new, and it does not appear to have much use if any.

This measures about 33 inches tall, and the top measures about 19 by 21 inches. On the top is “Estate Stove Co., Hamilton Ohio. Patented Sept. 5, 1905. If I Am Good Please Tell Other About It”. On the base is “Paxton – Mitchell”.

This sat outside for several years. There is some surface rust to the base and sides, and lichens. There are no cracks. Everything is here except the two long bolts on that secure the top to the bottom. If you took this apart to restore it, you would need to replace them anyway. An easy replacement.

This has great potential for restoration. A few hours with a rotary wire brush, some paint, and it would look like new. A rare old stove.

Local pick-up preferred.
