1979 Challenge Cup
- USSR vs NHL All-Stars Hockey DVD set
The 1979 Challenge Cup replaced the 1979 NHL
All-Star game - event that happened only twice in a history - this time and
in 1987 Rendez-Vous. With three players
in NHL All-Stars team being non-Canadians, in some way, it was the Series
between the Soviet national team and the team of the World. Unlike previous
the Summit Series in 1972 and 1974, the
Challenge Cup was held in the mid-season when both teams had no excuses for
poor pre-season conditioning. It was a face-off between the national team USSR
and the best pro players of the world.
This is a DVD set with
the all 3 games of the 1979 Challenge Cup played at Madison Square
Garden in New York.
Disk 1 - game 1 on February 8, 1979.
NHL stars jumped into the Series with a goal by Lafleur on just
16th second of the this game! They kept the pressure on Soviets the whole time
and had a very convincing victory in this action-filled game.
Disk 2 - game 2 on February 10,
1979.
On the verge of loosing the whole Series, USSR team rebounded
from a 4-2 deficit and tied the Series.
Disk 3 - game 3 on February 11, 1979.
Absolutely fantastic game! Decisive game of the Series was completely
dominated by USSR national team with rookie goalie in the net - Vladimir Myshkin.
Opening ceremonies with starting player introductions
and after-game interviews with guest commentator Bobby Orr are included on
all 3 disks. No intermissions or commercials. All DVDs have fully
featured menu with chapters, disks have nice labels and come in a triple-DVD
case with insert. This set is in NTSC format and region free.
