Canada Cup 1981 - USSR vs Canada
Hockey DVD, final game
This is one of the historic hockey games played
between USSR and Canada. Team Canada has won all Canada Cups except for
this one.
Watch rebuilt Team USSR beat one of the best Team Canada
ever assembled!
Gretzky, Bossy, Trottier, Gillies, Potvin, Luit and
others against raising KLM (Krutov-Larionov-Makarov) line, Shepelev (with a
hat trick in this game), Kasatonov, Fetisov, Vasiliev and others. And, of
course, great goalie Tretiak, who earned an MVP award of the tournament with his
stunning play.
Soviet team has dedicated that game to the memory of great hockey player
Valery Kharlamov, who was killed in a car crash just few days after the team has
left to Canada for tournament.
Soviet players thought about dropping off from the tournament and going back to
Russia for funeral, but decided to stay and remember their friend in true hockey
style - by winning the Canada Cup in this absolutely tremendous and shocking
game!
Video portion of 3rd period and part of award ceremony
has been replaced with video from Russian telecast for better picture quality.
