Computer Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel Case
I have chosen to build this computer in the Antec Nine Hundred case. This is an extremely sharp looking case. There are 6 blue LED lights that shine through the front grill that looks great, but are not overbearing and don’t blind you. It is very sturdy and strong case mad out of steel, so it is both rigid, and can protect all the hardware inside. It has loads of space for upgrades (6 internal bays and 3 external bays). This case comes with 4 adjustable fans including one really big 200mm fan on top (which also looks cool), to keep everything chilled. A storage tray on top of the case is large enough to hold a digital camera, possibly an exterior data storage device, or maybe just memory sticks and pens. The tray is also located right behind the front USB, 1394, and audio jack ports, which is a great location. Even with all the fans that come with it, it is one of the quietest cases I have ever heard.
Motherboard, CPU & Memory: ASUS P5N-E SLI, Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0 GHz, (2) Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 (4 GB Total)
Asus, Intel and Corsair are all leader in their industries. This motherboard (P5N-E SLI) with this CPU (E6850) is an extremely fast combination (1333 FSB). ASUS has made this model very versatile and upgradable. I have installed the Intel Core 2 Duo chip that runs at a blazing 3.0 GHz, but this motherboard will also take the Core 2 Quad. They both are excellent chips, but I choose the Duo chip because it runs a little cooler and requires less energy (which is easier on the system). I have installed 4 Gigabytes of RAM of the Corsair XMS2 DDR2 series that runs at 800 GHz but this motherboard is also expandable to 8 gigs when you are ready to upgrade. Combine all three of these items together and you have a system that is very fast and long lasting.
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar 320GB 7200 SATA - WD3200YS
In a hard drive, someone building a computer looks for a HDD that is fast, durable and long lasting. I have built many systems using the Western Digital hard drives and have not been let down yet. They are a leader in their field for a reason. The hard drive connects to the motherboard through a SATA ( 3.0 Gb/s) hookup, so when it comes to retrieving and saving data, this HDD is very fast (8.9ms’s). It runs at a speedy 7200 rpm’s and can hold 320 GB of data.
Optical Drive: ASUS 20X DVD+/-R DVD Burner w/ LightScribe Black SATA - DWR-2014L1T
In the past I have had a lot of success with ASUS products. They are top notch, high quality items. This is the first time I have chosen this product for one of my computers. The reviews of this DVD Burner are excellent and it is using the latest technology. This Burner is Multi Functional. It reads up to 48X and burns up to 32x with FlextraLInk. This DVD Player/Burner also has LightScribe which enables CD images and disc labels to be burned onto the disk you just created. Very cool.
Video Card: EVGA 8800GTS Superclocked 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 - HDCP 320-P2-N815-AR
This is one very good mid-range Video card. I chose this card for many reasons. It is an extremely fast card with a Core clock speed at 576MHz and 96 Stream Processors. The memory Clock speed is 1700MHz with 320MB and 320-bit Interface of GDDR3 type. It runs the latest 3D applications of DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.0. It has 2 DVI outputs for dual screen setup and a HDTV / S-Video with a max. resolution of 2560 x 1600. If you will use this computer for heavy graphics, this card will perform flawlessly whether you are using CAD, 3d modeling / animation programs, or running the latest video games.
Keyboard / Mouse: Microsoft Black USB Wireless Ergonomics Keyboard & Wireless Optical Mouse – 69N-00013s
I have chosen a Microsoft wireless Keyboard and wireless Mouse for this duty. I have used many brands of keyboards and mousse (mice) and have had the least amount of trouble with Microsoft than all the others. I personally have enjoyed the freedom Wireless input devices have provided me and felt it would be nice to pass this on to others.
Speaker System: Altec Lansing 70 Watts 5.1 Powered Audio System – VS3251
I have chosen the Altec Lansing speaker package for this computer. This speaker system sounds great without giving up too much space. Altec Lansing has always provided good quality sound and this one is no different. With this system, Altec Lansing has also gone remote. A remote control is provided so you can turn it up, change songs or movies from across the room.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows VISTA 32-Bit Home Premium Edition
I chose Windows VISTA Home Premium Edition as the operating system to take advantage of the latest technologies embedded in software today, and software in the future. I know people talk about how this OS is a memory hog, but with as much ram that is in this computer, that shouldn’t even be an issue.
