Premise: "All in the Family" is touted as the series that brought reality to prime-time television entertainment. The lead character, Archie Bunker (Carroll O'Connor), is a loudmouthed, uneducated, racist and bigoted individual who believes every negative stereotype he's ever heard. His sweet wife Edith (Jean Stapleton) -- who isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer, their daughter Gloria (Sally Strothers) and her husband Mike (Rob Reiner) all live with him in their lower-middle-class home. Unfortunately for Archie (but fortunate for the viewing public), he can't get away from the people he disdains. The family next door, the Jeffersons, are a black family. Mike (a.k.a. "Meathead"), Archie's son-in-law, is an unemployed (a student) Pole. Edith has a feminist friend in Maude (Bea Arthur). Later, Archie's business partners are Jews. He just can't escape; and the tensions and the ridiculousness of prejudice lead to compelling drama and hilarious comedy.
