BOSTON BLACKIE TV SERIES – starring Kent Taylor - This set comes with colorful labels for all discs and come sealed in a hard cover DVD case for gift giving.
Based on the popular movie series starring Chester Morris it soon became a popular TV series. Boston Blackie, played by Kent Tayor on television, was the hero of more than a dozen 1940's B movies, and the lead protagonist in this memorable TV show that aired in syndication from 1951 until 1953. He was the enemy of those who made him an enemy, friend of those who had no friend. Blackie was a reformed crook living in Los Angeles. Aided by his assistant and galpal Mary Wesley, played by Lois Collier, and his dog Whitey he regularly solved mystery crimes several steps ahead of the local police. Frank Orth played Inspector Faraday, Blackie's conduit with the LAPD.
Almost every episode ends in a fast paced chase scene where Blackie races to catch the bad guy. This is a fun series and the quality is quite good considering the rare nature of this series. While a few of the episodes are below my usual standards for quality I believe that the majority of episodes are as good as you will find anywhere. In fact I searched for over two years and actually tossed out several sets that were offered to me before locating this set which I am sure will please all mystery fans. 40 episodes of fun.
