THE CRIME OF DR. CRESPI (1935)
Based on "The Premature Burial" by Edgar Allen Poe, this classic shocker stars Erich von Stroheim as the sinister Doctor Andre Crespi - at once aloof, explosive and sadistic, lording over the minions at his hospital with an air of smug superiority.
The Doctor is consumed by jealousy when one of his colleagues, a fellow surgeon named Ross, wins the heart of the woman Crespi loves.
When an auto accident involving Ross presents an opportunity to get revenge, Crespi does not hesitate, condemning his nemesis to the most horrible fate imaginable: being buried alive!
But Ross has friends, and more importantly, Crespi has enemies... and sometimes those buried just won't stay in the grave!
