This brilliant documentary follows four psychiatric patients from their admission into Harvard's Massachusetts General Hospital through one to two years of their treatment. Winner of the 1990 Psychiatric Services Award, this video uses archival footage of treatments from the earliest days of psychiatry in a compelling attempt to contrast the more compassionate treatments of today against the often barbaric treatments of the past. Viewers should note that due to the graphic nature of some of this footage, discretion is advised. In this fascinating documentary, you will meet:

Todd, 25 years old. Todd is homeless, and has been diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder. He rejects treatment and the hospital, and only wants to get out so he can be free to do as he wishes.
Naomi, 23 years old. Diagnosed with Schizophrenia, and often here's voices. She needs to find the right medication so she can continue with her college classes and working.
Glen, 53 years old, diagnosed with severe OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). He is a photographer and needs to have surgery to fix his condition and be able to live a normal life.
Eric, 27 years old. Eric has been diagnosed with severe depression. Typical of someone with depression, he is almost physically spent just sitting in a chair for an interview.
