The Government of St Helena and Ascension Island has authorized the Royal Mint to strike a strictly limited number of twenty-five pounds Proof coins in solid (.999) silver.
The reverse design features a detailed representation of Napoleon Bonaparte gazing out to sea at HMS Northumberland, the ship that conveyed him tp exile on the island of St. Helena.
The obverse features the uncoupled portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by sculptor Raphael Maklouf.
St Helena is one of the most remote islands in the world. It was probably for this reason that during the years 1815 to 1821, it was loaned to the British Government as a place of exile for the emperor Naploleon, after his defeat at Waterloo.
Comprised primarily of volcanic origin, St Helena covers an area of 47 square miles. Seven hundred miles to the north west lies its nearest neighbor, the Ascension Islands, covering an area of just 34 square miles.
Specifications
Struck in stunning solid (.999) silver, each coin measures 65.00 millimeters in diameter and weighs 155.00 grammes. A maximum of 15,000 have been authorized for worldwide issue.
