I Know My First Name Is Steven" chronicles the True Story of Steven Stayner's Life after being kidnapped at the age of 7 and held with his captor for 7 Years.

On the afternoon of December 4th, 1972, seven-year-old Steven Gregory Stayner, disappeared while walking home from school. He was kidnapped a few days before Christmas by Reverend Kenneth Parnell. Under the belief that Parnell had been given legal custody of him, and that his family had moved away, Steven stays with Parnell. His family never gave up hope that he would eventually return home. 7 years later Steven turns up at a Police Station one night after rescuing another child from his captor. At first, he denies the allegations that he was sexually abused, however later as the movie progresses it is revealed he indeed was abused during those 7 Years. The movie also explores the difficulties Steven had is readjusting to his family and getting to know them all over again.

The Real Steven

In 1985 Stayner married Jody Edmondson; they had two kids. He was tragically killed in a hit-and-run traffic accident on September 16th 1989 at the age of 23, when a car pulled into the path of his motorcycle 70 miles east of San Francisco, CA. He was riding without a helmet at the time and suffered massive head injuries.
