It also shows the dramatic clash of cultures as seen through the eyes of the ambitious Blackthorne who, in order to survive, adopts the customs of the Japanese and becomes the first foreigner to be made a samurai warrior. Blackthorne is further drawn to their ways by the beautiful interpreter Mariko with whom he has an ill-fated love affair.
Filmed entirely on location in and around the beautiful seaside city of Nagashima, Shogun boasts some of the most exquisite scenes ever created for television.
