The story centers around John Blackthorne, a shipwrecked English navigator who becomes a pawn in a deadly struggle between two 17th century warlords: Toranagan, a powerful general striving to become Shogun, or supreme military commander, and Ishido, Toranaga’s bitter rival. It also shows the dramatic clash of cultures as seen through the eyes of the ambitious Blackthorne who, in order to survive, adopts the customs of the Japanese and becomes the first foreigner to be made a samurai warrior. Blackthorne is further drawn to their ways by the beautiful interpreter Mariko with whom he has an ill-fated love affair.
Filmed entirely on location in and around the beautiful seaside city of Nagashima, Shogun boasts some of the most exquisite scenes ever created for television. This unedited, foreign theatrical version also includes additional scenes not shown on television which will make this film a very special addition to your collection.
