OUR NOTES:
Vintage and antique clocks are a popular topic with collectors & dealers. We do carry in stock a number of excellent books on antique clocks & pocket watches. However, I believe this book will fill a rather significant void in any collectors library.
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only book in print devoted exclusively to the topic of vintage Pendulette clocks, nor do any of the all-in-one clock guides devote significant space to the topic. Pendulette clocks can still be readily found at local estate sales. Sometimes a sharp eye will purchase these clocks inexpensively for resale, since they DO bring good prices at antique shows and on eBay, at prices ranging from 150 - 400 and up!
I had the privilege of meeting the authors personally at a recent Kansas estate auction for a notable clock collector; as a consequence I was introduced for the first time to a collecting area I had previously overlooked.
This spiral bound book is filled with color photos & detailed descriptions (including values) of these clocks by makers such as Lux, Keebler & Westclox. The book is indexed; it also includes copies of manufacturer catalog sheets, clock molds & other related information.
As a layman, I appreciate the background the authors provide on these clocks. As an example, on page 47 they document a Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer clock made by Lux. The description includes the name of the original author of the Rudolph story, when it was written (1939), who it was written for (Montgomery Wards), when the actual song was written (1949) and then they also relates to us the story of this song being made popular by Gene Autry, which helps date the production date of the clock. If only all authors were so meticulous!
At any rate, we are pleased to make this fine reference available, and expect that this work will be well received by the collecting community.
