Murder She Said (1961)
Old miss Marple is on a train ride when she witnesses a murder in a passing train. She reports it to the police but they won't believe her: since no body can be found there can't have been any murder, right? As always, she begins her own investigation. The murder was committed while passing Ackenthorpe Hall and miss Marple gets herself a job there, mixing cleaning and cooking while searching the house for clues.
Murder at the Gallop (1963)
The old and wealthy Mr. Enderby dies of a heart attack but the ever suspicious Miss Marple has her doubts. Who or what gave him a heart attack? Enderby's poor relatives gather at the The Gallop, a combined boarding-house and riding school. Miss Marple also gets there to find out if any of them had any particular reasons to see him dead.
Murder Ahoy (1964)
Miss Marple investigates the murder of one of her fellow trustees of a fund which rehabilitates young criminals. To investigate she goes aboard the ship used to train the juveniles, much to the distress of the Captain. She soon stumbles onto more murders, and a ring of thieves.
Murder Most Foul (1964)
Adaption of Agatha Christie's "Mrs. McGinty's dead". Miss Marple is the only jury member who believes that an accused is innocently charged with murder, so she joins a local acting troupe and tries to figure out who the real murderer is.

Veteran British actress Margaret Rutherford shines as Christie's sly spinster sleuth, Miss Jane Marple, in four light-hearted whodunits. Unable to convince authorities that she witnessed a murder on a passing train, Rutherford goes undercover as a maid to catch the culprit, in "Murder She Said" (1961), with Arthur Kennedy, Muriel Pavlow, and Stringer Davis in his series role of Mr. Stringer. A wealthy old man's mysterious death leads the crimesolver to strange doings at a tony equestrian club, in "Murder at the Gallop" (1963), co-starring Robert Morley and Flora Robson. Next, "Murder Ahoy" (1964) finds Rutherford all at sea--literally--to track down the killer on board a ship; Lionel Jeffries co-stars. Then, juror Rutherford is convinced a murder suspect is innocent and, after a mistrial, joins a theatrical troupe to find the real criminal, in "Murder Most Foul" (1964), with Ron Moody and Dennis Price. 5 3/4 hrs. total on four discs.
