Crazylegs Crane first appeared in 1978 on ABC's "All
New Pink Panther Show". However, that's just name
only.
The character himself first appeared way back in 1969 on
"Tijuana Toads" short "Go For Croak",
where Crane (who was known as a large chicken in this short)
tried to capture the Toads, until Toro drinks a bottle of
Nitroglycerine. Eventually, the bird reappeared again in
several other "Tijuana Toads" shorts, including
"Snake in the Gracias" where the bird protects the
Toads from the Blue Racer (his first appearance before he gets
his own series). Crane appeared in six "Tijuana
Toads" cartoons. However, that's not all of his
theatrical appearance. The bird got teamed up with Blue
Racer again in three shorts "Blue Aces Wild",
"Aches and Snakes" and "Snake Preview",
all released in 1973.
Crazyleg's last theatrical appearance was in "The
Dogfather" cartoon "Mother Dogfather", where
Crane was a stork trying to deliver a baby to the Dogfather,
but keeps getting kicked out by Pug, under Dogfather's order.
Crazylegs Crane got his own series (and name) in September
1978 as a back-segment for "All New Pink Panther
Show". In it, Crane was a father for Crazylegs Jr.
and unsuccessfully tries to catch a fire-breathing Dragonfly
for a meal. This was a chase cartoon series, which was
not new for DFE (previously, there were "The Ant and the
Aardvark", "The Blue Racer", and "Misterjaw")
Crazylegs Crane was voiced by Larry D. Mann, who also
voiced several other DFE characters. Crazylegs Jr. and
Dragonfly was voiced by Frank Welker.
