PRIVATE SNAFU Mr. HOOK DVD WARTIME CARTOONS WARNER WWII

The U.S. Government set a film precedent when they commissioned the Private Snafu and Mr. Hook cartoon series!  The word "snafu" had entered the language at the start of the war as an obscene acronym that spread rapidly among enlistees: "S(ituation) N(ormal), A(ll) F(ouled)--a euphemism--U(p)," as Webster's politely puts it.  Private Snafu regularly "f***ed up" in outlandish ways that connected with soldiers and taught military lessons. 

A particularly classic SNAFU cartoon, Spies, from August 1943, imagines what can happen when a blabbermouth unknowingly spills military secrets.  It's the animated equivalent of a "Loose Lips Sink Ships" poster.  Among Spies' zaniest touches, is Private Snafu's question "Now who in h--l do you suppose it was who let my secret out?"-as well as the answer he gets: his mirror image as a horse's ass." 

Just as Private Snafu was the training mascot for the U.S. Army,  Mr. Hook operated in the same capacity for the U.S. Navy.   The rare and "hard to find" Mr. Hook cartoons from the World War II era have been added and are included as a bonus.  The Hook cartoons on this DVD are The Good Egg, The Return of Mr. Hook and Tokyo Woes, all produced in 1945. 

The total number of Private Snafu cartoons commissioned by the U. S. Government was 28, but 2 cartoons were never released and are non-existent.  This DVD contains the 26 Snafu cartoons released to the military plus the 3 Mr. Hook cartoons -- a total of 29 cartoons in all !!  Only 26 SNAFU cartoons exist, so don't be fooled by other sellers who claim they sell all 28.

The Snafu and Mr. Hook cartoons are B&W and average about 7 minutes each.  These cartoons are not only interesting historically, but they're also very funny.  The video and audio quality of these cartoons is excellent!
