About the Columbia: Columbia, the most authoritative and symbolic name in the human space exploration history, was the oldest orbiter in the US Shuttle fleet. Since its first flight in 1981, the Columbia had completed 27 space missions before it and its crew were lost during the re-entry of its 28th mission.
